Fish Pond Fun

Some people like to have fish ponds in their gardens. Lets have a look at the ins and outs of The Fish Pond.

Why do people want to build a fish pond?
1. to add beauty to the landscape of their garden.
2. they find water relaxing to be around.
3. they like little creatures that swim --fish
4. they want to have a project to do with the kids
5. they like the plants associated with fish ponds including the ones you put in the pond like lilies.
6. to serve as a primary fishing place. If you like fishing , then you can do so at home. Therefore you need to have fish that grow and multiply easily.

This is a great activity for the kids and creates some great family bonding time. And it should not take too long to catch a fish either. Also there is no travelling or boat involved making it a cheaper, more convenient way to fish.

All you need to do is find yourself a comfortable position, throw in the rod and wait for the bites.

Bon Appetite

To change an area of your land into a fish pond you need to:

1. Plan your location, size, shape, lining materials, plant selection, fish collection rock collection, equipment such as aerators, pumps, de-icers, fish food, plant fertiliser.

2. Purchase your requirements. remember to buy your fish once your pond is completed and ready to go.

3. Create your pond.

4. Add Fish to your pond.

5. Care and Maintain Your Pond

This is done by
~ filtering the water

~ fertilising the plants

~ feeding the fish

~ covering the pond

~ de-icing the ice

~ draining the water for cleaning and checking the equipment and fish for faults
and sickness.

~ maintaining oxygen levels by using aerators, plants, elimnating algae, not overfeeding your fish, not overcrowding your pond and frequent small changing small amounts of water frequently to lesson the presence of microorganisms and chemicals that consume oxygen. You can test oxygen levels with specific oxygen testing devices. If you don't have one think about getting one or keep your pond aerated continually.
